RADFORD - Radford University Professor Tod Burke will ask his audience "Can We Predict the Next Serial Killer?" in a presentation on Monday, April 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Heth Hall Claytor Room on the RU campus. The presentation will include slides, music and the participation of the audience, which will develop profiles of past serial killers. The program is not recommended for children or the "weak of heart," said Burke.
An expert in criminal justice and forensic science, Burke was interviewed last summer on CBS "Eye to Eye" with Connie Chung on the topics of home robberies, the typical home robber and the spread of gangs from the inner cities to the suburbs. He has published about 30 articles in police and law-enforcement journals on topics ranging from profiling serial killers to predicting police misconduct. He has presented papers to professional societies throughout the U.S. as well as in China and Taiwan.
Burke was a Howard County, Md., police officer for five years. During that time he assisted in the development of Project SAFE (Seniors Against a Fearful Environment) and gave numerous community presentations on crime prevention. He received over 25 letters of commendation for policing from citizens and supervisors. He holds a bachelor's degree in law enforcement, master's degrees in forensic science and philosophy and a doctorate in criminal justice.
